....Just aint cool, I'll explain why.
In my quest to find a new radio show to listen to in the morning, I noticed a huge bill board on my way home yesterday advertising Dave Lee Roth's morning show. So I decided to tune in (105.3 Free FM) ("That advertising had absolutely no effect on me at all" - Homer Simpson, shortly before joining clown college)
I know DLR is more famous for being the front man of Van Halen, but why would he turn to radio? He is quite a soft spoken bloke, and his voice just doesn't seem to 'fit' the radio.
He was born in 1954 which makes him 52 this year, and this morning he was interviewing 19 year old Sean White (a.k.a the flying tomato) who just won gold at the olympics in the Snowboarding. I was almost cringing as he interviewed him about how great it is to be in the media spot light, and all the girls you get, and free stuff. He was also going on about how he has just taken up surfing - I think Sean was really impressed :-) Im sure he isn't, but he just sounded like a sad old has been.
Lex and Terry are just a talk show now, with no music (apparently thats what makes award winning shows these days) so, I've given up on them. Bring back Jagger, Mondo and Dean!
Looks like its NPR, 'morning edition' again tomorrow...

Yea I don't doubt that DLR was a totally cool rocker (In fact Im sure he was!) but I just don't think he suits radio. I listened to him again this morning (in the interests of fairness) and he was doing politics. The people of the US are a bit up in arms about P&O being sold off to the UAE, and he had a phone in about it. His voice reminds me of a character SouthPark did (someone who hosted the planets funniest animals or something like that). Tomorrow I may flick betwen NPR and DLR :-)
"You Got Mail" Imagine that said in Lesley Judds voice of AOL mail/Blue Peter fame.
you cant beat morning tide on radio humberside, was your grandmas favourite and you know what a trendsetter she was.
Is that still on??!
dont know if its still called morning tide but its still shit.
By sheer coincidence I happened to listen to DLR the other week when I was in Addison. He is without doubt, a loud self-opinionated git who cut off his callers if they were being smarter than he was. But hey - if the format wasn't working, nobody would be calling in to argue, so he must have something about him that I missed.
He calls himself 'the Dee-Roe' these days :-)
