My Deepest Sympathy to....

...Manchester for winning the Super Casino license! I was also surprised to see Hull winning a license for a large casino.

Where in Hull will they build it? Also, if places like Sydney are anything to go by, it will mean more people living rough because they have blown their money at the casino.

You really have to wonder about the governements motives for handing it to Manchester though and not Blackpool. But then if you think about it, only a few weeks ago, Manchester announced it would be setting up a congestion charge. So I imagine some revenues from that will end up in Whitehall?

Oh well, I'll never be going to it :-)

Poor Workmanship

Just read my uncles post about his tile missing, and it prompted me to write about my house. After the recent gales and snow we have had, I am pleased to report that my garage is still standing.

The gable end is half way complete now, but I was a little worried about it lasting in the gales. It is, essentially, a brick wall with nothing supporting it. Its a free standing wall of bricks, if you will. So when the weather reports of 80mph wind was forecast I was expecting to have to rebuild it all!

The trusses are still in place and haven't moved an inch.

Its all down to good workmanship, you see...unlike my friggin' house!

Imagine my surprise when I got home from work last week to find a tile had blown off the roof. I couldn't believe it! I need to get it sorted before we have more rain, but it did make me laugh to be honest!

I have decided that them shoddy bastards in the 50's obviously didn't build these houses to last. I think my next project after the garage, will be to knock my entire house down and rebuild it, properly this time!

My dad isn't quite so sure...I put it down to his lazy, good for nothing 50's attitude. :-)

Ski 2007

Well, this years ski holiday has been booked. Me, Mike, Mark L and Paul are off to Avoriaz in France at the end of Feb.

Can't wait!

Hopefully there will be plenty of snow. I'm taking my ski's and my board, and I plan to try and do more snow boarding this year.

I really can't wait :-)

You Heard It Here First!

Well its good that the rest of the world eventually catches up with me :-

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/health/6287975.stm

I think I posted this thought last year in the 'Solving the worlds problems' post. Im just way ahead of my time really :-)

Obviously some journalists read this blog and nick all my good ideas!

Sheer Hypocrisy!

Is there racism in the Celebrity Big Brother House? I dunno, I haven't really been following it too much this year. From what I have seen though, I would say its more down to bullying and jelousy.

However, I did read on the BBC website, that one of the reasons the racism card had been played was because the house mates were mimicking Shilpa's accent. Fair do's...

Imagine my surprise when I logged onto that great bastion of journalism's website this morning and read an article entitled 'Its Hinlish, innit?' poking fun at the asain subcontinents bastardisation of the English language

:-) Its a crazy topsy turvey world

Land Prices

At work at the moment we have some of our American counterparts over. I was chatting to one guy today as we worked, and the conversation went something like this:

Me: So have you bought your house own house in Texas then

USA: Yea I own a place just south of Blah Blah. Well, when I say I own it, I mean the bank owns it - darn mortgages!

Me: Yup me too...Is your house very big

USA: No not really, its quite a small place. I only have 10 acres and 300 square feet or so of house

Me: Did you say 10 acres?

USA: yea its not that big.

Me: Is a US acre the same as a British acre?

USA: Uh-huh. How many acres do you have?

I then took some time to explain that 10 acres is f*cking loads of land! He seemed genuinely amazed that I didn't even have one acre of land.

Me: So how much would 10 acres in Texas set me back?

USA: Erm, about 6 thousand dollars.

Me: You have got to be kidding me?

USA: I'm serious! Why how much would that cost you in the UK.

I then explained to him that a friend of mine was looking at buying a small plot of land to build a house on, and it would cost him £170k just for the plot of land. This time it was his turn to pick himself up off the floor!

Can you imagine having 10 acres of land? I could build one massive garage on that! He said that he has woods at the back of his garden, and hasn't seen most of it. Imagine if you had kids, camping in the back garden would be brill!

A Summary

I have been really busy lately (and have to work tomorrow too :-( ) so I will post this as a round up of recent events.

1. Work is busy, but I prefer to be occupied.

2. Had an e mail from Herman (see last years posts!) saying he had read my avalanche post and was now desperate to go skiing :-) There are plans afoot to go skiing lating in Feb, but after writing this I am quite worried that a man who reads a post about an avalanche wants to go skiing with me! Note to self...e mail Herman on Monday and tell him Im very busy :-)

3. Been following Big Brother. Utter train wreck TV. Why do I watch it? That noise is the scraping of the barell

4. The weather is thwarting my attempts to progress any further with the garage roof. I managed to brick about a third of the front gable end last weekend, but since then it has done nothing but rain and be windy.

I'll write more later...

Avalanche

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/world/americas/6237985.stm

This time last year, I was here...

Would love to go skiing again sometime soon. I have boots and bindings now for my snow board. I had a look at some of the prices for European destinations, and I was quite surprised to find the prices didn't reflect the lack of snow!

More Bah, and a Dash of Humbug

I *can not* believe that the Vicar of Dibley, starring 'professional fat chick' Dawn French, was a rating smash this christmas!

I was forced to watch this steaming pile of shite, because I didn't want to be a 'TV terrorist' and dictate that we should have been watching something better, while our christmas dinners weighed heavy on our stomach's and the acrid smell of burnt plastic and xmas pud wafted over from the microwave.

Who wrote this tosh? Quite frankly, my arse could have farted a better plot line, which, by the way, was more transparent than a Blair lie.

It was just one clumsy setup for lame 'gags' after another, culminating in the most obvious ending ever.

"Well why don't you write something better then, if it was that bad"

I might just have to do that....

For me, the funniest thing on TV this christmas (apart from watching Mr Hussein dangle) was the contestants on Deal or No Deal think they have a strategy in choosing which box to open next! The looks on their faces when their chosen strategy knocks out all the 'power 5' boxes can only be likened to that of Del Boy's when he falls over in the pub - absolute comedy!

I love it when they walk away with just 1p!

Is it wrong for me to laugh at other peoples mis-placed optimism? :-) I say, do it to them before they do it to you!
