Just read my uncles post about his tile missing, and it prompted me to write about my house. After the recent gales and snow we have had, I am pleased to report that my garage is still standing.
The gable end is half way complete now, but I was a little worried about it lasting in the gales. It is, essentially, a brick wall with nothing supporting it. Its a free standing wall of bricks, if you will. So when the weather reports of 80mph wind was forecast I was expecting to have to rebuild it all!
The trusses are still in place and haven't moved an inch.
Its all down to good workmanship, you see...unlike my friggin' house!
Imagine my surprise when I got home from work last week to find a tile had blown off the roof. I couldn't believe it! I need to get it sorted before we have more rain, but it did make me laugh to be honest!
I have decided that them shoddy bastards in the 50's obviously didn't build these houses to last. I think my next project after the garage, will be to knock my entire house down and rebuild it, properly this time!
My dad isn't quite so sure...I put it down to his lazy, good for nothing 50's attitude. :-)

i bet he wishes he was still in his 50s!!!!!
when you have some time get your arse over here and put my tiles back up, i could do with a master builder like you to sort this problem out.
re: the garage still standing, its a good job you got the roof trusses up cos i bet the walls wouldnt have withstood the gales without them they will have added a bit of support, so you see all them weekends you could have been sat doing nowt (like i would have done) were worth it. the old addage applied a job done is a job saved.
Erm, apples and oranges, apples and oranges!
Surely we should be reconvening in 50 years time to see if the garage is still standing before we compare the workmanship?
True, but why let good practice and facts get in the way of sensationalizing this blog? :-)
