How to Cool Beer....

....Mythbusters style!

Just been watching Mythbusters, and they were trying to work out the quickest way to cool down a six pack. Thought it might be handy for the surfing weekend.

Well, unless anyone can get hold of a Co2 fire extinguisher for the weekend (it will chill beer to 37 degrees f in 3 mins!) they suggest ice, water and salt. The salt melts the ice quicly and cools the water around the tinnies, cooling them down in around 5 minutes.

Sounds like a plan to me, and beats cooling them in a stream :-)

I heard once that someone had designed a system where when you cracked open your can, a jet of dry ice went into the drink, cooling it instantly and carbonating it into the bargain.

Was that a myth? It sounded fantastic.

The myth was that some people in 'nam had discovered that if you bury your 6 pack in sand, then pour gasoline over the sand and ignite it, it should cool your beer. Well they busted that myth - it just tasted of sand and petrol! They didn't try injecting Co2 into the can itself, just aorund the cans in a bucket - which produced the best results!

Hows the new house? I get mine tomorrow :-)
